What We Evaluate
Evaluating an organization’s ability to execute its strategy begins with a review of the business’s strategic objectives and whether the leadership team is aligned on them. The four distinct areas of executing that we evaluate are:
- Defining tangible objectives
- Are the objectives tangible and realistic with defined timeframes?
- Are there metrics in place to measure their success?
- Balancing resources with objectives
- Are there too many objectives based on the available resources?
- Are the resources aligned with the objectives and have defined owners?
- Linking Incentive systems to performance
- Are reward systems linked to accomplishing the objectives?
- Adjusting the objectives based on objective feedback
- Is there a process of adjusting the objectives based on objective feedback?
- Is there a culture of accountability and performance?
Although evaluating the above provides insights into an organizations potential to execute, it simply comes down to measuring what has been accomplished versus what has been planned.
How We Evaluate
Since execution is simply measuring what gets accomplished, much of our approach is quantitative in nature where we identify what has been planned and then measure what has been accomplished. Supporting this analysis is a more qualitative process where through interviews with the leadership team we identify the barriers to a company’s ability to execute.
